Arrowhead Jerky Works – Spicy Sriracha Bacon Jerky

Bacon_Web_grande

Wow.  This stuff is amazing!  I’ve tried a rubbery national brand of bacon jerky (maybe it was Obertos, not sure) and it sucked.  This does not suck.  It is spicy, but unbelievably tasty!  $5.99 for a bag?  That’s not bad, but truthfully I’d pay a couple bucks more.  This rocks!

Probably the best thing I’ll ever put in my mouth!

Arrowhead Jerky Works Burning Revenge Jerky

Image

Ay Caramba!  This jerky is on fire!

So, I had previously tried both a teriyaki and bbq jerky from this young jerky company and enjoyed ’em both.  Figured it was time to try this one – Arrowhead Jerky Works Burning Revenge.  I’ve got to say…I loved it!  Plenty of flavor in addition to a heat that builds nicely with a real good chew factor.  I found no fatty pieces and no unchewable bits.  Made from California beef with no added preservatives, I paid $5.99 for a three ounce bag ($2.00 per oz), which is average to good for a ‘premium’ jerky.  I’ll definitely pick this up again, in fact, I want more now!

Krave Pineapple Orange Jerky

Image

Krave Jerky is a newer jerky purveyor out of California’s wine country and offers up some unusual (and sometimes tasty) flavors.  I purchased Krave’s Pineapple Orange Jerky at an upscale liquor store in Rancho Cucamonga.  I paid $7.29 for the 3.25 ounce bag ($2.24 per oz), which is in the average range for a ‘premium’ jerky.  The meat was relatively soft with no excessive fat or unchewable pieces.  The flavor was a little sweet for me, but it kinda worked.  Reminded me of having steak and eggs with a glass of juice.  Overall, I might buy it again (especially around breakfast time!).

Bootlegger’s Frisky Whiskey Jerky

Image

Grabbed a bag of this at my local Jensen’s market this morning.  It’s got a good sweet whiskey flavor and a decent meat texture.  Tastes like real whiskey is used, not just ‘whiskey-like flavoring added’.  Overall, I like it.  I paid $7.99 for a 3 ounce bag ($2.66 per oz), which is not the best deal ever.  Hmmm…while I like it, I’m not sure I’d part with another eight bucks for three ounces of jerky.

Dried and True Sriracha Lime Jerky

Image

Found this Dried and True Sriracha-Lime Jerky at a little store in Venice, CA (where the company is based).  Holy crap, it’s expensive!  I paid $8.99 for two ounces ($4.50 per ounce) which is kinda nuts…but I had to try it.  Overall, tasted a little bit like Korean BBQ, but chewy.  Overall, kinda dry with a few unchewable bits.  Not a big fan.

Krave Sweet Chipotle

Image

Like the Chili Lime previously reviewed, Krave’s Sweet Chipotle is a little dry and relatively soft. Made from ‘Natural Beef’, it’s got a smoky chipotle pepper flavor that gets a little tiring towards the end of the bag. I paid $6.99 for 3.25 ounces ($2.15 per ounce), which is average for a ‘premium’ jerky (whatever that is).  Overall, a solid choice, although not sure I’d pick this flavor again.

Arrowhead Jerky Works – Tropical Teriyaki

Tropical Teriyaki

Really liked the Arrowhead Jerky Works Backyard Barbecue jerky, so I found the Tropical Teriyaki at the store.  While I’m not a huge teriyaki fan (not just jerky, but teriyaki anything!), this had a nice flavor of citrus and spice.  I would have eaten the whole bag, except my daughter found it on the kitchen counter and gobbled the whole thing! At least now I know what to get her for her birthday the end of the month.  I paid $5.99 for a 3 ounce bag ($2.00 per oz), which is average to good for a gourmet jerky.

Alien Fresh Weed Killer Hot Jerky

Image

On the way to Vegas, we stopped at Alien Fresh Jerky in Baker, CA. I’d stopped in Baker many times over the years, but only to hit the restroom, get gas or grab a drink for the remainder of the trip. While I’d seen Alien’s billboards up and down the highway before, I hadn’t tried their product.  They have many flavors and meat varieties…I chose the Weed Killer Hot Jerky for $8.00 for 4 ounces of jerky ($2.00 per ounce). This price is average to good for a ‘premium type’ jerky.  The jerky was hot (which I dig) and had a little depth of flavor to it. It is a ‘sticky’ jerky…I had to wash my hands after eating. Even so, the meat quality was good without a lot of fat or sinewy pieces.

Oberto Peppered Jerky – Not Bad for a National Brand

Image

Grabbed a 3.25 ounce bag of Oberto Peppered Jerky at Circle K the other day for $6.79 ($2.09 per ounce – kinda high for a mass market jerky).  Overall, it had a good flavor although there were a few hard, dry almost unchewable pieces.  Still, better than most national brand jerkies.  I’d buy again if choices were slim.

Arrowhead Jerky Works – Backyard Barbecue

bbq

Grabbed a bag of Arrowhead Jerky Works ‘Backyard Barbecue’ jerky on Christmas Day on the way  to the in-laws place.  Paid $5.99 for a 3 ounce bag ($2.00 per oz) which is average-to-good for a ‘gourmet’ jerky.  Made from California beef and preservative free, it’s got a really good mesquite flavor and a good overall chew. I’ll definitely buy it again, and look forward to trying their other flavors.
